Faculty of Health Sciences Successfully Completes 16 Social Responsibility Projects.
Students of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Faculty of Health Sciences carried out a total of 16 social responsibility projects throughout the 2024–2025 academic year. With the contributions of the Departments of Social Work, Nursing, and Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, the projects not only strengthened the students’ sense of social responsibility but also provided direct benefits to various segments of society. In the fall semester, the Department of Social Work implemented the project “Generations Meet and Compete.” Organized in cooperation with the Zonguldak Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, the project brought together elderly residents of nursing homes and university students for a knowledge competition. Through three stages of the contest, participants from different generations shared both their knowledge and life experiences, thereby strengthening communication and solidarity between the young and the elderly. During the spring semester, Nursing Department students stood out with projects focusing on family and health. “Hope from Mother to Mother” and “Letters from Mothers to Their Babies” provided moral support to mothers with infants in intensive care. “Beautifying the Pediatric Emergency Breastfeeding Room” and “I Love My Family, I Care About Safety” created safer and more comfortable hospital environments for mothers and babies. “Strong Families for Children, Strong Tomorrows – A Gift from Nature for My Mother” strengthened both family bonds and environmental awareness through gifts made of recycled materials, while “In the Year of the Family: Gratitude to the Soil, Respect for Nature, A Sapling for the Families of Our Martyrs” enhanced social remembrance by planting saplings on behalf of martyrs’ families. The project “My Family Means to Me…” gave high school students the opportunity to express their perceptions of family. In addition, “Safe Steps at Home,” “A Hygienic Generation,” “Hand in Hand for Health Awareness,” and “Early Diagnosis, Healthy Tomorrows” offered training sessions for women and children, reinforcing awareness on health and safety. The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, on the other hand, carried out projects focusing on public health and environmental awareness. The project “Act for Health” encouraged physical activity with a nature walk held in Kent Forest on the occasion of Physiotherapists’ Day in Türkiye. “Collect Your Trash, Learn and Apply Recycling” raised awareness by combining campus clean-up efforts with recycling education for students. In addition, through “From Thread to Love: A Gift for Your Mother” preschool children prepared handmade presents for their mothers, strengthening family interaction, while “Together We Are Strong: Say Stop to Peer Bullying and Addiction” provided online training for parents to help ensure safer social environments for children. With a total of 16 projects, the Faculty of Health Sciences students not only applied their professional knowledge and skills in practice but also made direct contributions to society. The Faculty will continue to support its students in developing a sense of social responsibility and in carrying out innovative projects that add value to the community in the years ahead.
