The 2025–2026 Academic Year Orientation Events and the 8th Student Club Promotion Days at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) began with an opening speech delivered by Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, which was broadcast live across all campuses.
Following a moment of silence and the Turkish National Anthem, a promotional film reflecting BEUN’s deep-rooted history and vision was screened. After the film, Rector Özölçer took the stage to celebrate the start of the new academic year and wished success to the newly enrolled students. He began his speech by warmly greeting the participants and emphasized that Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University is one of the first universities of the Republic of Turkey. He stated that the university stands out in higher education with its rich history, strong academic staff, and student-centered educational approach.
He explained that the university’s educational journey began in 1924 as the “School of Mining Engineering” and today continues as one of the most innovative and dynamic universities in Turkey. Prof. Dr. Özölçer highlighted that the university distinguishes itself not only through academic achievements but also through the rich opportunities it offers students:
“You will be studying in one of the most beautiful cities of Turkey, with our campus located right by the sea. With our 24/7 open modern libraries, laboratories equipped with the latest technology, sports facilities, student clubs, and social spaces, we offer you a vibrant, productive, and supportive university life.”
Rector Özölçer reminded students that university life is not solely about academics, encouraging them to participate in social, cultural, and sports activities. He added that taking advantage of Zonguldak’s natural, historical, and cultural richness would make their university experience even more meaningful. Recalling the saying, “To know oneself is wisdom; to know the world is knowledge,” Özölçer advised students to set goals during their education and to work diligently toward them. He addressed the students by saying, “With perseverance, you will surely be rewarded for your efforts.”
Continuing his speech, Rector Özölçer shared that the university ranked fourth in Turkey within the scope of the "Sports-Friendly Campus" project. He emphasized that facilities such as the semi-Olympic swimming pool, fitness center, basketball, football, and tennis courts support students’ physical and mental development. He concluded his remarks by wishing all students a successful and fulfilling academic journey.
